Why I’m Breaking Up with ‘Reality’ TV

For years, I’ve loved reality TV. The drama, the twists, the jaw-dropping moments—it all felt like the perfect way to unwind. But recently, I started noticing something: the more I watched, the worse I felt.

I wasn’t just entertained; I was absorbing the energy of these shows. The fights, the betrayals, the emotional manipulation—it was seeping into my own energy field, leaving me frustrated, anxious and mentally drained. I was getting upset over situations that weren’t even mine, carrying emotions that didn’t belong to me. And worst of all? It was lowering my vibration.

The Hidden Energy Drain of Reality TV

It might be called "reality," but let's be honest—it’s anything but. These shows are designed to create conflict, stir up drama and keep us emotionally hooked. And when we consume that energy, it can impact us in ways we don’t even realise:

  • Increased Stress & Anxiety – Watching people fight, lie and manipulate can subtly shift our own mindset, making us more on edge or even expecting drama in our own lives.

  • Feeling Stuck & Unmotivated – Lower vibrational energy can create resistance, making it harder to stay in alignment with our goals and desires.

  • Emotional Exhaustion – Getting emotionally invested in people’s on-screen struggles can leave us drained, as if we’re carrying their burdens without any way to resolve them.

  • Manifestation Blocks – Since we attract what we energetically align with, filling our subconscious with chaos and negativity can slow down or block our own manifestations.

Are We Supporting Emotional Manipulation?

Then I had another realisation: we’re not just watching people navigate relationships and challenges—we’re watching people be put into a pressure-cooker situation, manipulated, and portrayed as story characters for entertainment. The editing, the producers’ interference, the strategic conflicts—all of it is designed to create an addictive, dramatic storyline that keeps us hooked.

The problem? It makes it hard to define fact from fiction. These are real people, but they’re also being moulded into exaggerated versions of themselves, forced into situations that heighten emotions and reactions. And the more we watch, the more we support an industry that thrives on emotional torment for views. That’s not something I want to energetically align with anymore.

I’ve Worked Too Hard to Let This Back In

I’ve worked really hard to clear these types of low vibrational energies out of my life and focus on creating peace and calm for my nervous system. I don’t want to bring these energies back into my space—especially when they don’t even belong to me. I’ve spent time healing, releasing and choosing things that genuinely make me feel good and reality TV just doesn’t fit into that anymore.

Each to Their Own—This Is Just My Choice

Now, this isn’t a post to shame anyone who enjoys reality TV. Until recently this was also me! Everyone has their own choice and we all take things in differently. If it’s something you love and it doesn’t affect your energy, then that’s great! But for me when I started noticing just how much it was shifting my mood and mindset and I had to do what aligned with me. No judgement—just a personal decision to prioritise what feels good for my energy.

Choosing Higher-Vibe Entertainment

Just like I stopped watching the news years ago to protect my energy, I’m doing the same with reality TV—especially toxic dating shows. Instead of filling my mind with drama, I’m choosing content that uplifts, inspires and expands me.

  • Lighthearted comedies that make me laugh

  • Travel and nature documentaries that bring peace

  • Educational content that helps me grow

  • Fictional shows that don’t rely on constant negativity

I want to consume things that nourish my energy, not drain it. And if I’m watching something before bed, I want it to leave me feeling calm and aligned—not stressed and overstimulated.

So, this is my official breakup with reality TV. It had its fun moments, but the energy cost is too high. I’d rather focus on raising my vibration, manifesting my best life and filling my time with things that actually make me feel good.
