Always burn White Sage and Palo Santo in a well-ventilated area and keep away from curtains, fabrics, children and animals. Never leave burning materials unattended.

The abalone shell can become hot during use, so place it on a stable, heat-resistant surface. Make sure all embers are completely extinguished before leaving your ritual space.

Smoke cleansing is an intentional ritual. Before you begin, take a moment to pause, connect with your intention and consider what you would like to clear or shift.

Visualise yourself surrounded in a golden light or protective bubble and give gratitude for the products you are using and the support they are giving you today. You can connect ask that this cleanse be guided by Source energy (or whatever term aligns with you).

Open all of your windows and doors (if possible) so the smoke and any energy being cleared can be released.

White Sage

White Sage has been used for generations by Indigenous peoples of North America in cultural, spiritual and ceremonial practices. It is important to approach White Sage with respect and understanding rather than treating it as simply an aromatic herb.

To use:

• Place a small amount of White Sage in your abalone shell.

• Set your intention and protections

• Work from the back of the house to the front door.

• Light the end until it begins to smoulder, then gently blow out the flame.

• Allow the smoke to rise and move through your space.

• You can gently waft the smoke using a feather or allow it to naturally drift around you.

• You will need to relight the sage if you are doing your whole space.

• When you have finished, extinguish the sage completely in your abalone shell or another fire-safe vessel.

Palo Santo

Palo Santo, meaning “holy wood”, has a long history of traditional use among Indigenous peoples of South America. It has been used in spiritual and ceremonial practices and is deeply connected to the cultures and traditions from which it comes.

To use:

• Hold the Palo Santo securely and light one end.

• Allow it to burn for approximately 30-60 seconds.

• Gently blow out the flame and allow the wood to smoulder.

• Move the smoke around your space, yourself or an object you wish to cleanse.

• Take a moment to connect with your intention and the natural aroma of the wood.

• When finished, place the Palo Santo in your abalone shell or another fire-safe surface and allow it to extinguish completely.

Palo Santo may naturally stop smoking on its own. If you would like to continue your ritual, simply relight it when safe to do so.

Your Abalone Shell

The abalone shell provides a beautiful natural vessel for your cleansing ritual. It can be used to hold your White Sage or Palo Santo while burning and to catch any ash or to just hold it once you are done.

The shell also brings the element of water into your ritual, complementing the other natural elements involved in smoke cleansing.

The shell can get hot when burning sage in it, please be mindful.
